Videos - Town Council Meeting
First Half of Meeting
In a surprise move, Mayor Staley brought before the council business of the shabby look of the Town with lack of grass cutting and maintenance along the highways and the five entrances to town. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to correct the problem with additional cutting. What a welcome change! Once again our Town will look nice and neat as it did two years ago. Major Staley must be commended for seeing a problem and wasting no time in correcting it.
What was surprising is the the SAME TWO COUNCILMEN who had agreed with the previous Mayor and made no effort for the previous two years to correct the condition were now in favor of the change. Both, in fact, wanted to add to the cut. As council member for two years, I had tried unsuccessfully to resume the cut that Mayor Staley had put in place in his previous adminsitration. BOTH COUNCILMEN were against the change and spoke against it at a work session and in support of the former Mayor. (I have recorded the meetings so have proof.) One councilman even told a person making a complaint, "I don't want to get involved in the grass cutting." Really, I thought being involved was why each was elected!
It appears that the TWO COUNCILMEN are easily influenced and not independent thinkers. Or, they just want ,for expediency sake, to agree with the Mayor, whatever he happens to think or whoever it happens to be. Or, pulled a "John Kerry"; I voted against it before I voted for it."...wishy-washy......
There are five persons on the council for a reason.
By the way, both of these COUNCILMEN ran unopposed last November.
SECOND HALF OF MEETING
Comment from a resident about condition of Stovall Street and response. Councilwoman Davenport reports of progress with several reported problems in her neighborhood including a safer boarding of children on the County School buses. Councilwoman Davenport has only been in office five months but her immediate involvment in town business and concerns is obvious! Unless I miss my guess badly, this lady will be pro-active for her neighborhood and town.
